Save Some Time and Money by Knowing What a Tailor Can and Can't Do

Save Some Time and Money by Knowing What a Tailor Can and Can't Do
Tailors, along with cobblers, can help you avoid buying something new every time there’s an issue with your clothing. A Tailor can’t fix everything, though, so here are some of the big things they can and can’t fix.
  • They can: lengthen a pair of pants by dropping the hem as far as they can; shorten sleeves on coats, jackets, and blazers; shorten straps and raise a dress to fit properly at the bust and underarms.
  • They can’t: reduce something more than one size (the proportions and seams will be off); lengthen a jacket or remove shoulder pads; repair a whole in your garment by stitching it closed (though they may be able recommend a reweaving service).
If your garment can be fixed, you can save a lot of money because you won’t need to buy a new one. It’s helpful to know what a tailor can’t do so you know what to expect so you’re not wasting your time trying to fix something you can’t. You can read about more things a tailor can and can’t do at the link below.
